The Elements of Chinese Medicine

The five-elements theory is a concept that takes certain forces of nature—fire, earth, metal, water,  and wood—and applies them to the human body. This theory helps us to understand the various functions of the body and how they relate to nature. Most of us are born with one element predominant; it’s up to us to identify our element and learn how to care for it. Even though one element is usually dominant, the energies of the other elements are strong during various times of the day, year, and throughout our lives.

Thus, we may feel more energy from our less dominant elements at various times throughout life. In my following post I have described each element and how it applies to nature and the body
throughout our lives. From this material, you can learn to understand which elemental type you are, how to best care for your element, and how to live in harmony with life.
